The comprehensive level of the department ranks first in the province and leads domestically, aligning with international standards and forming unique diagnostic and treatment characteristics and development models.

In recent years, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University has continuously increased investment. Research achievements are mainly reflected in:

  1. Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological malignancies: Including early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, interventional therapy) for endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, etc. Particularly in ovarian cancer treatment research, a series of results have been achieved, placing it at the domestic forefront. Research on the application of pre-targeting technology for early diagnosis and immune-targeted therapy of ovarian cancer won the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. This research首次 (for the first time) utilized pre-targeting technology for radioimmunoimaging of a humanized ovarian cancer single-chain antibody, providing a new method for early diagnosis and an experimental basis for targeted therapy, especially for recurrent ovarian癌 (cancer).同时 (Simultaneously), it independently designed, innovatively constructed, and expressed a novel recombinant toxin with "one target, dual effects," providing a全新的 (completely new) design concept and approach for developing new targeted drugs for ovarian cancer. Ongoing research on HSAg-CTL for individualized treatment of ovarian cancer patients has also achieved preliminary results with good economic and social benefits. Related research has received two National Natural Science Foundation grants and two Ministry of Education special research基金 (funds). The research level is domestically leading, and this series of研究成果 (research achievements) has been well regarded by domestic experts and peers.

  2. Application of minimally invasive technology in gynecological diseases: Laparoscopic surgery has become a routine and proficient diagnostic and treatment method. It can perform surgeries for various gynecological diseases like uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors, and endometriosis, as well as repair surgeries for pelvic floor dysfunction disorders. Particularly in recent years, the department has applied laparoscopic surgery to the treatment of gynecological malignancies (e.g., cervical cancer, endometrial cancer). Laparoscopically performed radical hysterectomy for endometrial and cervical cancer with pelvic lymphadenectomy is domestically leading and was unprecedented in the province and Northeast China. Hysteroscopy: Diagnoses diseases within the uterine cavity causing abnormal vaginal bleeding, overcoming missed and misdiagnoses from ultrasound or D&C, allowing direct etiological diagnosis. Colposcopy & High-Frequency Electrosurgery: Colposcopy配合 (combined with) gynecological examination, liquid-based cytology, Bethesda reporting system, and pathological examination enables early diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Interventional Therapy: Super-selective arterial embolization successfully rescues and treats bleeding in advanced gynecological cancers (e.g., uterine bleeding from choriocarcinoma, invasive mole) and intractable postpartum hemorrhage. This is the only program in the province offering this. Continuous infusion chemotherapy via super-selective arterial catheterization treats advanced cancer patients or those难以耐受 (unable to tolerate) surgery (e.g., advanced cervical cancer, choriocarcinoma, ovarian cancer). Vaginal Surgery: Performs myomectomy, subtotal hysterectomy, total hysterectomy, and corrections for uterine prolapse, anterior/posterior vaginal wall prolapse, and stress urinary incontinence transvaginally without laparotomy. Only a few hospitals in the province perform these, but they have become routine and proficient surgeries at this department.

  3. Services at the Reproductive Medicine Center include: (1) Diagnosis and treatment of female infertility; (2) Diagnosis and treatment of male infertility; (3) Assisted reproductive technologies: Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization—Embryo Transfer (IVF/Test-tube Baby), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI); (4) Ovulation monitoring, ovulation induction medication, follicular puncture for assisted ovulation; (5) Semen analysis, sperm morphology analysis, epididymal puncture, semen cryopreservation, genetic testing; (6) Preconception counseling, genetic disease screening, diagnosis and treatment of habitual abortion; (7) Minimally invasive treatment of adnexal cysts; (8) Multifetal pregnancy reduction.

  4. The Prenatal Diagnosis Center, besides routinely offering prenatal screening and diagnosis through Down syndrome serum screening, systematic ultrasound, 3D/4D ultrasound, also provides fetal echocardiography, targeted fetal ultrasound, maternal-fetal Doppler flow monitoring, NT screening, etc. It enables prenatal diagnosis of fetuses with major organ defects like Down syndrome, neural tube defects, severe encephalocele, severe open spina bifida, single ventricle heart, lethal achondroplasia in early pregnancy. It provides imaging diagnosis for complex fetal congenital heart disease and prenatal monitoring of placental function and fetal well-being for high-risk pregnant women to better serve them.

  5. Perinatal Medicine primarily focuses on research in this field. Its diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of pregnancy-specific diseases (e.g., hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, HELLP syndrome, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy), pregnancy complications (e.g., heart disease, diabetes, severe hepatitis, hematological diseases, hyperthyroidism), and management of obstetric emergencies like placenta previa, placental abruption, and postpartum hemorrhage are at the domestic leading level.
