The Department of Spinal Surgery at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University, also known as the Jilin Provincial Spinal Surgery Treatment Center, is a leading institution in the province. It has been designated as the North American Medical Education Foundation Minimally Invasive Intervention International Training Center, the Smith & Nephew Radiofrequency Clinical Training Center—Jilin Provincial Branch, the Northeast Asia (Sino-Russian) Laser Microtreatment Center for Disc Function, and a designated hospital for the Weigao Love Project Charity Program by the China Charity Federation. These accolades reflect the department's prestigious status within the province, showcasing its excellence in surgical techniques, scientific research, and medical education, placing it at the forefront both provincially and nationally.
The department currently employs 45 medical staff, including 18 doctors and 27 nurses. Among the physicians, there are 4 doctoral supervisors, 4 professors (chief physicians), 8 associate chief physicians, and 6 attending physicians. The nursing team consists of 1 chief nurse, 3 charge nurses, 11 senior nurses, and 13 staff nurses. The spinal surgery department is organized into seven medical teams, each led by nationally or provincially recognized spinal surgery experts. Most doctors have overseas training experience in countries such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, and Singapore. The department operates 50 inpatient beds and performs over 1,400 surgeries annually.
Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment
Spinal deformities: Congenital and idiopathic scoliosis in children and adolescents, adult degenerative scoliosis, and kyphosis.
Degenerative spinal diseases, including cervical disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, cervical instability, cervical spinal stenosis, thoracic disc herniation, thoracic spinal stenosis, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and discogenic neck and low back pain.
Spinal cord tumors: Primary and secondary spinal tumors, metastatic cancers, intraspinal and intradural tumors.
Spinal infections: Vertebral, intervertebral disc, and intraspinal infectious diseases, as well as spinal tuberculosis.
Spinal cord injuries: Various types of spinal fractures, dislocations, and spinal cord injuries.
