The Department of Anesthesiology in the Operating Room of The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University is a clinical department that integrates clinical anesthesia, emergency resuscitation, teaching, and scientific research. Currently, the Department of Anesthesiology performs an average of over 25,000 anesthesia cases annually, with no medical errors occurring for several consecutive years and a direct anesthesia mortality rate of zero. It was the first in the province to introduce combined spinal-epidural anesthesia and has gradually established a leading position in the province with strengths in otolaryngology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, and cardiovascular surgery anesthesia. Particularly in the anesthesia of critically ill patients, such as anesthesia for snoring surgery in otolaryngology, pheochromocytoma surgery, and aortic dissection surgery in cardiac surgery, excellent anesthetic outcomes have been achieved.
The discipline leader, Pan Zhenxiang, an associate professor and master's supervisor, primarily focuses on anesthesia for critically ill patients. He currently holds positions as a National Committee Member of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Medical Association Anesthesiology Branch, a National Committee Member of the Anesthesiologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Vice Chairman of the Anesthesiologist Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Doctor Association, Chairman of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Association, Expert Consultant of the Jilin Provincial Public Health Emergency Expert Committee, and Vice Director of the Jilin Provincial Anesthesia Quality Control Center. He has mastered new domestic and international technologies, independently handles anesthesia for common and special complex cases, persistently pursues learning, continuously updates his knowledge, stays informed of the latest developments in the field domestically and internationally, and actively applies them in clinical practice where conditions permit. This includes anesthesia for critically ill patients, clinical application of various advanced equipment (such as video laryngoscopes and ultrasound), and the widespread implementation of post-anesthesia care units. In scientific research, he has published over 10 papers in core journals in the past three years, undertaken 5 provincial-level research projects, received several university-level medical achievement awards, and承担 national, provincial, and university-level continuing education and training programs annually. In recent years, with the increasing number of elderly patients, especially those with complex or multiple internal medical conditions, new challenges have arisen for anesthesia. To enhance safety during anesthesia, we continuously introduce new technologies and therapies. For patients with difficult airways, we employ various difficult airway management tools, including laryngeal masks, video laryngoscopes, Shikani optical stylets, fiberoptic bronchoscopes, and oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, and have established a set of difficult airway management protocols. In hemodynamic monitoring, our department is also the first in the province to implement invasive, non-invasive, and minimally invasive cardiac output monitoring. This monitoring provides直观量化 objective evaluation of preload, afterload, myocardial contraction, and diastolic function in critically ill patients, effectively ensuring patient safety. Complications such as hypertensive crises, severe hypotension, arrhythmias, and hypoglycemia caused by physiological changes during pheochromocytoma resection are key issues in anesthesia. With the increase in the number and complexity of pheochromocytoma surgeries in the urology department of The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University in recent years, higher demands have been placed on anesthesia. The nursing team in our hospital's operating room has a rational梯队 structure and strong research capabilities. Currently, there are 123 nursing staff in the operating room, including 1 associate chief nurse, 23 charge nurses, and 8 with master's degrees, accounting for 7% of the total departmental staff. Our operating room is an enterprising, united, and upwardly mobile learning team. The department has 1 master's supervisor. In clinical research, the department actively creates conditions, forming groups focused on research and teaching, thereby establishing a research梯队. By the end of 2013, our nurses had published over 100 papers in various national journals, undertaken 4 research projects, compiled training materials for specialized operating room nurses in Jilin Province, and created operating room procedure guides. As a training base for specialized operating room nurses in Jilin Province, the department successfully hosted the Annual Conference of Operating Room Nursing in Changchun, Jilin Province, and was recognized as an Advanced Collective by Jilin University.
The head nurse of the operating room, Zhao Huimin, an associate chief nurse and master's supervisor, primarily focuses on operating room nursing management and infection control. She currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Operating Room Professional Committee of the Jilin Provincial Nursing Association and Chairman of the Operating Room Professional Committee of the Changchun Nursing Association. She has published over 30 papers in several authoritative journals, received 5 medical achievement awards from Jilin University, 2科技进步 awards from the Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology, completed 4 research projects as the principal responsible person, obtained 1 utility model patent, and has been recognized multiple times as an Advanced Nursing Manager and Excellent Communist Party Member by the hospital. She has extensive experience in operating room nursing management.
