Established in 1948, the department is currently led by Professor Li Fuqiu, who serves as a standing committee member of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and head of its Mycology Group. As the most comprehensive and academically leading dermatology discipline in the province, it is one of the flagship specialties in Northeast China. It has been designated as a national demonstration base for dermatological medical aesthetics, acne, rosacea, and psoriasis; a clinical pharmacology base for dermatology and venereology under the Ministry of Health; the head unit of the Jilin Provincial Medical Quality Control Center; the chair unit of the Dermatology Branch of the Jilin Provincial Medical Doctor Association; a key specialty in Changchun; and a key cultivation specialty of Jilin University. It was also among the first in the province to grant master's degrees, and now offers doctoral degrees and hosts a postdoctoral program. The department has undertaken two projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and has won two first prizes and two second prizes for Jilin Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress, as well as one first prize from the China General Chamber of Commerce.
The Dermatology Department consists of three subspecialties: Dermatology and Venereology, Medical Aesthetics, and Dermatologic Surgery/Laser Aesthetics. It currently has 50 medical, nursing, and technical staff, including 9 full professors, 6 associate professors, 17 PhD holders, 1 doctoral supervisor, 1 adjunct doctoral supervisor, and 9 master's supervisors. The department operates 52 inpatient beds and handles an annual outpatient volume of over 200,000 visits, with nearly 1,000 admissions and discharges per year. It pioneered the diagnosis, treatment, and research of sporotrichosis in China. Professor Li Fuqiu, the disciplinary leader, authored the country’s first "Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sporotrichosis" in 2016, which received the first prize for Jilin Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress. The Dermatologic Surgery unit was the first in the province to perform Mohs micrographic surgery, addressing the cosmetic treatment needs of patients with various skin tumors and related conditions.
