The Department of Urology at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University was established in 1985. After more than two decades of development, it has evolved into a modern comprehensive department integrating medical treatment, scientific research, and education. Currently, the department boasts two renowned professors, three associate professors, one attending physician, and four physicians (including two hired on contract), both within and outside the province. Among them, four are master's supervisors, two hold doctoral degrees, and two hold master's degrees. The medical expertise is at an advanced level within the province, with some areas reaching nationally advanced standards. The annual number of surgeries performed is approximately 3,000, and the department diagnoses and treats tens of thousands of patients each year.

The department undertakes English-language surgical teaching responsibilities for the seven-year basic medical program and seven-year stomatology program of Jilin University Medical School, the five-year clinical medicine undergraduate program, the five-year preventive medicine undergraduate program, as well as for international students from India and South Korea,专升本 (upgrading from college to university) students, and the School of Nursing. Dozens of master's students have been trained here. Under the guidance of university and hospital leaders as well as senior experts, and through years of teaching practice, the teaching faculty has gradually been refined and optimized in terms of structure, forming a reasonably structured teaching team with high comprehensive quality and a strong spirit of initiative. Diversified teaching methods, primarily based on multimedia and online platforms, have been implemented.

The department has 58 open beds. It includes a general urology outpatient clinic, andrology outpatient clinic and laboratory, urodynamic testing room, painless cystoscopy room, endoscopic ultrasound room, multifunctional treatment room, andrology treatment room, day surgery operating room, intensive care unit, and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy room. The department pioneered and has maintained a leading position in Jilin Province for procedures such as transurethral vaporization resection of the prostate, surgery for female stress urinary incontinence, male prosthetic implantation, and one-stage hypospadias repair in children. It is currently capable of independently performing all minimally invasive and conventional open surgeries in urology, including laparoscopic surgery, ureteroscopic surgery, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, one-stage hypospadias repair, female urinary incontinence surgery, and transurethral surgery. It was the first department in Jilin Province to perform urodynamic testing and currently undertakes the task of providing urodynamic consultations for other departments across the province.
