The current discipline leaders are Professor Miao Lining and Professor Luo Ping. Professor Miao Lining currently serves as a Standing Committee Member of the Nephrology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, while Professor Luo Ping is the Director of the Jilin Provincial Renal Disease Quality Control Center. The discipline is recognized as a National Key Clinical Specialty, one of the first Peritoneal Dialysis Training Demonstration Centers designated by the National Health Commission, a Key Nephrology Research Laboratory of the Jilin Provincial Health Commission, a Key Nephrology Research Laboratory under the Jilin Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Jilin Provincial Renal Disease Quality Control Center of the Health Commission, the chair unit of the Nephrology Branch of the Jilin Medical Association and the Nephrology Branch of the Jilin Medical Doctor Association, a National Training Center for Hemodialysis in County-Level Hospitals, and one of the first off-Beijing Clinical Training Bases for Blood Purification Specialist Nurses accredited by the Chinese Nursing Association.
The department boasts specialized clinical treatment centers, including a renal biopsy diagnosis center, blood purification center, peritoneal dialysis center, chronic kidney disease-bone metabolism disorder treatment center, renal intensive care unit, and a key nephrology laboratory. It is one of the few clinical specialties in the province that integrates all these functions. The department currently has 137 medical, nursing, and technical staff, including 14 individuals with doctoral degrees, 4 doctoral supervisors, 12 master's supervisors, and 6 members of national professional academic groups. The department operates 93 inpatient beds and 117 blood purification beds, with 4 CRRT machines. The annual outpatient volume exceeds 40,000 visits, with over 3,000 inpatient admissions and discharges each year. The department performs more than 600 central venous catheterizations, 100 peritoneal dialysis catheterizations, and 700 arteriovenous fistula surgeries annually. It leads the province in performing techniques such as renal puncture biopsy, ultrasound and radiation-guided endovascular interventions, artificial vascular graft fistula formation, arteriovenous fistula transposition, automated peritoneal dialysis, laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter suspension, modified gastroscopic brush repositioning of peritoneal dialysis catheters, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) parathyroidectomy.
