The Department of Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology currently has one associate chief physician, two attending physicians, and 32 hospital beds. It primarily treats a range of eye diseases related to children, including strabismus, amblyopia, congenital ptosis, and nystagmus. The department performs nearly a thousand strabismus surgeries annually, ranking first in the province. These include many complex cases of strabismus, with pediatric patients accounting for more than half of the total.
Director Yang Longyan, who has over 20 years of clinical experience in ophthalmology, is known for her precise diagnostics and skilled surgical techniques. She performs a high volume of surgeries and is a leading authority in strabismus surgery in Jilin Province and even the broader Northeast China region. Thanks to detailed preoperative examinations—such as synoptophore, prism, Maddox rod, and Hess screen tests—surgical planning is highly accurate, ensuring optimal outcomes. The surgeries not only meet aesthetic expectations but also help restore stereoscopic vision, enabling patients to engage in precision-based tasks.
All physicians in the department have received training at nationally renowned centers for strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology, including the Tianjin Eye Hospital. Furthermore, Professor Zhao Kanxing, a nationally recognized strabismus expert and Chair of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, has frequently visited the department to deliver academic lectures, provide technical guidance, and perform live surgical demonstrations, greatly advancing the discipline. Moving forward, the department aims to continue exploring complex strabismus surgeries while actively expanding surgical treatments for conditions such as nystagmus.
