The Operating Room of the Ophthalmology Hospital was established in November 2004. The department has a total of 21 nurses, 2 assistant nurses, and 4 nursing assistants. Among them, 2 hold a master's degree, 1 is currently pursuing a master's degree, 13 have a bachelor's degree, 4 have an associate degree, and 2 have a secondary specialized education. The department was awarded the titles of "Outstanding Nursing Service Collective" in 2008 and "Excellence Award for Outstanding Nursing Team" in 2010.

The operating room consists of 9 operating theaters with 16 operating tables. Ophthalmic surgeries frequently utilize advanced precision instruments, including: 3 ZEISS-S88 microscopes, 4 TOPCON-OMS-610 microscopes, 2 TOPCON-OMS-800 microscopes, 3 ALCON-ACCURUS vitrectomy machines, 1 SRORZ-Millennium vitrectomy machine, 5 laser machines (including 1 Alcon OPHTHALAS 532 Eyelite, 1 LLUMENIS NOVZSS, and 3 KeLin laser machines), 1 KeLin cyclophotocoagulation machine, 5 cryotherapy machines, 1 nasal endoscope, and 1 radiofrequency machine.

The department primarily performs surgeries for glaucoma, cataract, vitreoretinal diseases, strabismus, orbital diseases, oculoplastic surgery, and ocular trauma. Specific procedures include:

  1. Glaucoma: Trabeculectomy, trabeculotomy, iridectomy, etc.

  2. Cataract: ECCE + IOL, PHACO + IOL, non-ultrasmall incision surgery, etc.

  3. Retinal detachment: Vitrectomy, scleral buckling with cryotherapy, laser photocoagulation, etc.

  4. Diabetic retinopathy: Vitrectomy, etc.

  5. Strabismus: Correction of concomitant strabismus, correction of incomitant strabismus, muscle reattachment, etc.

  6. Orbital diseases: Orbital wall fracture repair, orbital bone defect repair, orbital tumor resection, lateral and medial orbitotomy, endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy with lacrimal duct intubation, etc.

In recent years, the operating room has undertaken all surgical support work for the ophthalmology hospital, capable of assisting in complex ophthalmic surgeries. The team continuously learns new ophthalmic knowledge and explores new surgical and treatment areas.

Since the establishment of the ophthalmology hospital, the number of surgeries has increased annually:
2004: 2,261 cases
2005: 4,869 cases
2006: 6,323 cases
2007: 7,662 cases
2008: 7,889 cases
2009: 8,962 cases
2010: 10,272 cases

The department also undertakes teaching and clinical training for nursing interns from various institutions. Each instructor imparts knowledge on ophthalmology, aseptic techniques, and operating room precautions. Strict exit examinations are organized for interns.

In recent years, the department has published over 30 articles, including more than 20 in provincial journals and 8 in core journals. It has received four Medical Achievement Awards from Jilin University and completed three Continuing Medical Education projects at Jilin University.
