The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University was established in 1958. It currently has one national-level expert, two provincial-level experts, and two attending physicians. Traditional Chinese Medicine outpatient clinics are available at both the Pingzhi Street Main Campus and the Yatai Branch of the hospital.
Medical Care: Guided by the principles of "Great Medicine Pursues Excellence and Sincerity" and "Medicine is a Art of Benevolence," we adhere to the philosophy of "inheritance, exploration, innovation, and advancement." We consistently practice traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation and treatment, maintaining our characteristic service feature of high efficacy and cost-effectiveness. Significant therapeutic results have been achieved in treating challenging conditions such as high fever, tumors, gynecological diseases, thyroid disorders, spleen and stomach diseases, kidney diseases, stubborn insomnia, constipation, edema, and fatigue. This has earned us a strong reputation among patients.
The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is equipped with a pharmacy that provides pre-made granule formulations of Chinese herbal medicine. These granules are made from high-quality prepared Chinese herbal pieces through modern high-tech extraction and condensation processes to create single-ingredient granules. Their properties, flavors, and efficacy are entirely consistent with those of raw Chinese herbal medicine. They offer advantages such as no need for decoction, direct dissolution in water for consumption, small dosage requirements, reliable therapeutic effects, hygienic safety, and convenient portability and storage.
Teaching and Research: The department has successively undertaken the teaching of "Traditional Chinese Medicine" for multiple grades across various programs, including the five-year, seven-year, and eight-year clinical medicine programs, as well as maternal and child health, stomatology, preventive medicine, library and information science, nursing, and other disciplines. It has also been responsible for teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine to international students from South Korea and Japan, cultivating a large number of TCM professionals both domestically and internationally. Since 2013, the department has published 16 academic papers, achieved 7 research projects and technology transfers, secured 3 teaching project grants from Jilin University, and contributed to the compilation of 5 TCM textbooks. It served as the lead institution for the eighth edition of "Traditional Chinese Medicine," a national planned textbook for undergraduate education during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period.
