Department Introduction

The Department of Pharmacy at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University is a large comprehensive unit integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research. It is responsible for medication management, pharmaceutical technical services, pharmacy administration, and clinical pharmacy work centered on rational drug use. As a teaching hospital affiliated with Jilin University, the department undertakes the instruction and internship training for master's and undergraduate students in pharmacy. In 2010, it was approved as a Clinical Pharmacist Training Base by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, responsible for educating and training clinical pharmacist trainees.

The department currently has 83 staff members, including 3 chief pharmacists, 7 deputy chief pharmacists, and 26 supervising pharmacists. Among them, 4 hold doctoral degrees, 24 have master's degrees, and 28 have bachelor's degrees.

The head of the department, Director Fu Xiujuan, is a chief pharmacist and a master’s supervisor. She also serves as a committee member of the Hospital Pharmacy Professional Committee of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, a member of the Hospital Pharmacy Management Professional Committee of the Chinese Hospital Association, the chairperson of the Hospital Pharmacy Professional Committee of the Jilin Provincial Pharmaceutical Association, and a standing council member of the Jilin Provincial Pharmaceutical Association.

The pharmacy was established in 1936 when the hospital (then known as Xinjing Municipal Hospital) was founded. In 2009, following the requirements of Jilin University, the Pharmacy Department was renamed the Department of Medication Management (Department of Pharmacy). The department now includes the following units: Outpatient Pharmacy, Chinese Herbal Medicine Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Yatai Campus Pharmacy, Youth Campus Pharmacy, Purchasing and Supply Office, Computer Room, Drug Storage, Pharmacy Administration Group, Clinical Pharmacist Working Group, Clinical Pharmacist Training Base, and Pharmaceutical Laboratory.

Adhering to the service philosophy of “patient-centered and rational drug use-focused,” the Department of Pharmacy closely integrates pharmaceutical services with clinical practice, fully leverages the role of pharmacists, promotes rational drug use in clinical settings, and enhances the overall level of clinical medication management in the hospital.
