As one of the first national standardized residency training bases, The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University has 24 specialized training bases, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Dermatology, Neurology, General Practice, Rehabilitation Medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, Radiology, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Medical Genetics, and Preventive Medicine. The hospital is equipped with over 430 advanced instruments and devices, such as Philips 256-slice ultra-fast CT, Hitachi 128-slice CT, E-CT, world-renowned MRI systems, Philips IE33 color Doppler ultrasound, Varian linear accelerators, fully digital flat-panel cardiovascular angiograph (DSA), Siemens 3D C-arm, Stryker computer-assisted surgical navigation systems, and all-femtosecond laser surgical systems, providing robust hardware support for the training base.
Our hospital boasts 6 national key clinical specialty construction projects, 5 provincial key clinical specialties, 16 municipal key clinical specialties, 1 distinctive specialty, and 2 university-level key clinical cultivation specialties. It also hosts 6 provincial medical quality control centers, 5 provincial key laboratories, and 5 national clinical training bases. Additionally, it houses a national chest pain center, Jilin Provincial Major Vascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Jilin University Insulin Pump Therapy Center for Diabetes.
The training base at our hospital has a comprehensive faculty quality management system and various trainee management regulations. Each year, applications, examinations, and admissions are conducted from May to June. Trainee rotations, hospital orientation, departmental orientation, and job training are arranged from July to August. Formal clinical practice training in specialized bases begins in September. In accordance with national and provincial requirements, the base organizes one enrollment and graduation cycle annually. The graduation assessment is completed by August each year based on actual circumstances. During the training period, the hospital oversees daily management, attendance, skill training, annual assessments, and graduation examinations. Our base emphasizes training characteristics, designs personalized cultivation plans for trainees, and focuses on humanistic management. Since its establishment, it has enrolled 1,081 trainees from within and outside the province, with 275 graduates achieving a qualification rate of 97.8%.
The hospital has a strong faculty team, including teaching experts and specialized instructors. Currently, there are 2 dual-appointed academicians, 36 doctoral supervisors, and 230 master's supervisors. The clinical skills training center is currently located in the Qingnian Campus, covering an area of 1,100 square meters. It is fully equipped with over 900 training devices of more than 200 types, supporting practical skill training for courses such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Dermatology, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Diagnostics, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Nursing. The center includes dedicated training rooms for cardiopulmonary auscultation, surgical skills, internal medicine skills, gynecological skills, pediatric skills, neurological skills, emergency skills, nursing skills, and comprehensive case simulations. It meets the clinical skill teaching needs of various disciplines, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine. Dormitories, cafeterias, and libraries provide partial support for trainees' study and daily life.
