On August 21, at the invitation of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University, Professor David Zhang, an internationally renowned cardiovascular research expert, tenured professor at the University of Alberta, Canada, and doctoral supervisor, visited our hospital for an academic exchange. Professor David Zhang has long been dedicated to researching the mechanisms of cardiovascular atherosclerosis and has achieved remarkable accomplishments in this field.
During the event, Professor David Zhang delivered an academic report titled "Regulation of Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor and Therapeutic Potential." In his presentation, he provided a comprehensive overview of the critical roles of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and PCSK9 in lipid metabolism regulation, and shared the latest advancements and innovative achievements from his research team in the field of lipid-related basic research. He also delved into the mechanisms underlying these studies and discussed the potential therapeutic applications of LDLR in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. These cutting-edge research topics and new directions attracted significant attention from the medical experts and scholars present, sparking lively discussions.
Professor David Zhang’s insightful report not only provided the latest scientific information to the physicians in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at our hospital but also inspired them to bridge clinical and basic research. His clear and engaging explanations, coupled with the expansion of scientific thinking, greatly benefited the attending clinicians and researchers. The report enhanced their perspective on basic research and strengthened their confidence in integrating clinical practice with scientific inquiry.
After the report, Professor Liu Bin, Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University, along with his team, held in-depth academic discussions with Professor David Zhang. The two parties explored potential future research collaborations and engaged in constructive discussions on hot topics in the field of cardiovascular diseases. Professor Liu Bin also specially invited Professor Zhang to visit the catheterization lab of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, showcasing the latest equipment and technologies in interventional therapy at The Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University. Professor David Zhang spoke highly of the clinical and research environment of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at our hospital and expressed his anticipation for closer collaboration in scientific research in the future.
Professor David Zhang is a tenured professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Alberta, Canada. In January of this year, he was appointed as a visiting professor at our hospital. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including Pfizer Pharmaceuticals' "ASPIRE" Cardiovascular Research Award, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Award, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada New Investigator Award, reflecting his high academic accomplishments.
The successful hosting of this academic report not only strengthened the academic exchange between our hospital and the international cardiovascular research community but also injected new momentum into the scientific research efforts of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. Our hospital will continue to uphold the principle of integrating scientific innovation with clinical practice, striving to advance research and treatment standards in cardiovascular diseases and provide patients with higher-quality medical services.
